The annual Gwanza Photographic Workshop opened at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe Penthouse Studios on Monday with more than 20 participants attending.

The five day workshop which attracts some of the country's leading and upcoming photojournalists allows the media practitioners to sharpen their skills and learn the latest trends in visual arts.

Facilitating the workshop is Zimbabwe's well-known photojournalist Fidelis Zvomuya with the assistance of William Nyamuchengwa, Calvin Dondo as well as Tsvangirai Mukwazhi.

Zvomuya, who has played an active role in the photojournalism community since the 1970s was the Herald chief photographer for 12 years.

In 1994 he scooped the All Africa Games Photographer award and founded the Zimbabwe Institute of Photographic Arts and Cinematography in 1998.

He also lectured at the Christian College of Southern Africa (CCOSA) where he trained journalists and photojournalists.

Nyamuchengwa worked for Ziana and the Ministry of Infomation for years.
